Park Foreman I

The Park Foreman performs a variety of grounds keeping and interment activities for the 60 acres Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam. The successful candidate will be responsible for landscape, walkways and maintenance of gravesites as well as the maintenance and repair of all roads, walkways and fences. The Park Foreman is responsible for the operation of grounds equipment and vehicles to maintain burials fields, grounds roads and pedestrian walkways and to transport materials. Performs other duties as required such as:
Plant and cultivate flowers, shrubs, and trees; mow and trim ground and grave area; seed sod and develop turf, apply fertilizer, herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides, as part of grounds keeping activities. Remove snow and sand roads, walkways and entrances.
Prepare gravesites for interments, set headstones and markers. Use maps, transit measuring tapes, cable and corner pipe to design new gravesites areas. Set up rows and number plots. Test soil depth with auger.
Accurately measure and calculate individual grave plots and headstone placements for burial. Layout headstone locations, prepare and transport new headstones for placement, and set headstones in concrete bases on gravesites. Clean, set, raise, and align placed headstones and markers.
Facilitate accurate placement of cremated remains in niche, lawn crypt, or cremation garden. Accurately mount niche plates to columbarium niche front.
Clear gravesites, set up platforms, and lay and remove plywood for burials.
Accurately place casket-lowering devices on gravesites and lower casket remains. Set and cover vault and arrange grass carpets over gravesites.
Operate utility vehicles and trucks to transport materials, goods, supplies and equipment.
Operate backhoes, skidloaders to dig graves, trenches, and other excavations.
Operate power riding mowers string line trimmers, edges, sod cutters, post hole diggers, sprayers and rototillers to maintain turf and other grounds and garden areas.
Operate snow removal equipment including truck snow plows, with loaders, garden tractor with plow and rotary brooms and snow blowers on flat and hilly terrain and around trees, flagpoles, culverts, roadways and walkways under a variety of weather conditions. Apply sand as needed to ensure safety.
Participate in implementing design plans by planting, transplanting, cultivating and mulching shrubs and tree.
Operate chain saws, brush saw, and hedge shears to clear and prune grounds. Mow and trim lawns, flowers, shrubs, trees, and around headstones and markers.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, park maintenance or tree maintenance work or, (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
I. A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school with a major in landscaping may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
II. An Associate's degree or higher with a major in forestry or landscape architecture may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Education toward such a diploma, certificate or degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of requirements actually completed.
NOTE: Educational substitutions will only be permitted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
Special Requirements: I. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license.
II. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 2 Motor Vehicle Operator's license.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
