PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER

Position
The OMG Product Development and Innovation team is focused on developing compelling and innovative new products, and improving our existing products to better meet the needs of professional contractors and building specifiers in the markets we serve. Reporting to the Product Development Engineering Manager, you will use a gated development process and Six Sigma tools. This highly rewarding position is responsible for whole project management - from ideation to launch, including timeline management, cross-organization communications, and overall team management.


Responsibilities
o Promoting Safety as our #1 priority
o Work with Project Manager and Product Manager to define project scope
o Conduct jobsite Gemba with product manager to define Job To be Done (JTBD), identify current practices, existing IP and unmet needs
o Proactively manage Intellectual Property Strategy from Provisional to Final Patent
o Apply NPD process tools to identify and prioritize CTQ targets
o Identify and acquire internal and external development resources to generate potential solutions that meet project demands
o Bring potential solutions through NPD stage gate process while continuously narrowing focus toward best potential concepts for commercialization
o Design experiments and testing process to evaluate effectiveness of potential concepts
o Ensure manufacturability of selected solution for commercialization
o Minimize solution cost / maximize potential value and profitability
o Define and conduct FMEA to maximize potential success of new product
o Work with Quality team to develop and implement QAQC process.
o Work with Manufacturing Engineering team to develop a manufacturing transition strategy
o Manage 2-4 Projects concurrently
o Measures of success are: patents, bill of materials (BOM) accuracy and final design performance


Requirements
o Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering
o 2 or more years of product development experience preferred
o Demonstrated Solid Modeling experience - SolidWorks preferred
o New product development experience
o Demonstrated hands-on aptitude (construction and/or mechanical)
o Stage Gate development process training and experience?
o Strong PC skills including Microsoft Office suite?
o Six Sigma Black Belt training or exposure?
o Applied statistics?
o Creative, tenacious and a problem solver
o Self-starter, highly motivated, strong sense of personal accountability
o A commercial perspective that drives projects to successful completion?
o Team player
o Excellent communication skills (written and oral)?
o Coachable ?
o Ability to stand, see, walk, climb, talk, hear and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.?

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
